Sony’s advice is to keep your system off until they have fixed it, probably Tuesday 2nd March morning. Turning the system on may result in corrupt data and even loss of trophies.

Story:

MGS4 is a revolutionary stealth/action  style game that was developed by Kojima Productions and published by Konami. It blends it’s two styles perfectly, making the experience so enjoyable.

The first level is  a war-torn middle eastern country that starts with a touching cutscene and a climatic battle with Gekos (a kind of bipedal organic tank if that makes any sense). This really sums the game up. Cool cutscenes and awesome gameplay that echoes continuously through the game. It is the unique blend between the two that really shows the depth of the gameplay,  as well as the seventy plus weapons, upgrades, gadgets and more.

Graphics and sound is another area that this game excels in. Something that should be considering the several GB install every act. They add to the immersion and make the experience even more electrifying. The truth is the graphics are not without defects, you get the occasional low-res texture, and the flames lack something that would actually make them interesting to look at. The music is amazing, it has a real triple A feel to it and clearly wasn’t a second thought. It is also used well to convey different situations and atmospheres.

The story and characterization are two things that are often confused when discussing this game. Many people will tell you how brilliant the story is, but the truth is it’s fairly average. It’s a simple bad guy tries to blow up something fairly important and the whole of the world’s fate is in your hands. What confuses people is the convoluted way in which it is presented. Kojima has built a incredibly detailed world with many a tale happening within, and this is  to tie up lose ends (or at least we thought so, see Metal Gear Rising and Metal Gear Solid Peacewalker). How he presents it is however outstanding, the cutscenes have an incredibly movie like feel to them and the character’s emotions really do affect you, just don’t let either of these confuse you with the story.

Also packaged is Metal Gear Online. It is true MGS gameplay ported online. What it does with different modes and maps doesn’t break any records, it is really a perfect and never ending continuation of the Metal Gear saga, but sadly minus a story, sadly the online segment is quite easily overlooked and many people do not see it’s true brilliance.

The presentation is stellar, even for an exclusive game and nothing has a last minute feel, this really is a true ending to Snake’s adventure should Kojima ever manage to put the series down.  It is a definite buy for all fans of the series or owners of the ps3, anyone complaining about the £300 price tag should play this first. With that said however, many people will overlook it or simply not understand it but any hardcore gamer that is true to his pad  should find solace in this title

Gameplay: 9.9 Varied and intelligent with a great deal of depth
Story: 8 Not as good as some may believe but better than what most ‘AAA titles’ have to offer
